In
West Pubnico a living village/museum
has
been created to
portray life as it was for the early Acadian families, with a goal of
providing a better understanding and appreciation of the Acadian culture,
traditions, language and way of life from 1653 to the present.
|
|
The
"Le Village Historique Acadien de la Nouvelle-Écosse"
(Historical Acadian Village of Nova Scotia) demonstrates the good times
and the hardships of seacoast life at an earlier time.
|
|
Buildings
have been re-created with the style and techniques of the past; several
historic structures have been moved to the site and restored. At the
left, a flower garden featuring Cosmos bursts into summer bloom.

Nova
Scotia is a land of lighthouses... it's one of the first and last sights
of your trip in and out of Yarmouth,
and as you travel the "Lighthouse Route" you will see more
on the way. The lighthouse on the right has been repositioned in the
Village Acadien so visitors can see that aspect of the past.
|
|
Modern
electronic equipment on boats has made some lighthouses unnecessary,
but a number of them along your route are still fully functional, and
welcome landmarks for incoming vessels to this day.

The
Village Acadien features visitor facilities, a gift shop, and a staff
only too willing to share their knowledge of the Acadian life of their
ancestors.
